Guan Eng says Umno using his children as political targets

Guan Eng says Umno using his children as political targets

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — Lim Guan Eng has accused Umno of using his children as political targets, and charged that his daughter has become the victim of attacks by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The defence minister had said that the National Service (NS) training programme was now widely accepted and trusted by parents for the positive effect it has on their children, and used the Penang chief minister’s daughter as an example.

Guan Eng dared Umno and BN leaders to take him on but leave his children alone. — File pic
He had reportedly said that even DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang had seen how his granddaughter, who went to the Balik Pulau camp, had changed for the better after attending the programme.

“His (Kit Siang’s) son and Penang chief minister (Lim Guan Eng) also told me of the positive effect of the programme and thanked me for it,” Zahid was quoted by Bernama as saying.

But Lim Guan Eng denied this, saying that Zahid’s assertions were wholly “untrue”.

“My daughter is a good kid and is the same before and after joining the NS camp. Both my father and I had never told the defence minister as claimed by him and neither had we thanked him for it,” Lim said in a statement today.

He urged Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders to not use his children as political capital to boost the federal coalition’s credentials, saying that his entire family was “upset” by Zahid’s remarks.

“My family and I love our daughter and want to protect her privacy. We have shielded her from the glare of publicity so that she can grow up and enjoy life with her friends as a normal kid.

“We hope that Datuk Seri Ahmad can respect my daughter’s privacy and not drag her into his political games to justify the NS programme,” added Lim.

The DAP secretary-general stressed that this was not the first time his children had been “unfairly targeted” by Umno, and pointed out how his 15-year old son had been defamed by Umno leaders for allegedly molesting a schoolmate.

Umno blogs also claimed Lim paid RM200,000 to cover up the scandal and transfer his teenage son to another school.

School authorities have since then confirmed that there was no such instance of sexual molestation as alleged by Umno blogs.

The picture of the alleged molest victim published online turned out to be a chess champion who lives in Hong Kong and who has never even met Lim’s son.

“I urge Umno and BN leaders to throw your lies at me if you must but please leave my children alone. They are still studying and are not in politics.

“Have BN and Umno leaders run out of ideas and ideals that their only political capital is to preach lies and hate not only against PR leaders but also at our children?” Lim asked.

DAP world’s most racist party, says Utusan

DAP world’s most racist party, says Utusan
By Shazwan Mustafa Kamal
January 29, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 — Utusan Malaysia has accused DAP of being the world’s most racist party following Lim Kit Siang’s recent call for Chinese voters to unite and ensure a change of government.

The DAP parliamentary leader had in a Chinese New Year message said that the Chinese community had managed to attain economic prosperity despite the failings of the Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government, which has been mired in “corruption” and “abuses of power.”

“It is evident that Kit Siang cannot hide DAP’s true agenda in inciting the Chinese community ahead of the 13th general election. It shows the truth that DAP is not only the most racist party in Malaysia, it is the most racist party in the world,” said a Mingguan Malaysia editorial under the Awang Selamat pseudonym.

Lim’s remarks were in response to a statement made by MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who had called on Chinese voters not to “experiment” in the next general election, as Barisan Nasional’s leadership has continually allowed the nation to prosper.

Lim said Malaysians needed to vote the opposition into power as Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) suffered from an “incorrigible disease of denial complex” in refusing to admit the failures of government and nation-building.

In response, Utusan accused Lim of bringing up the issue of concentration of wealth among the Chinese, and that it was being used as a “political model” to win over votes.

“Kit Siang’s actions in bringing up the issue of wealth among races is dangerous. Everyone knows that the economy is controlled by the Chinese because of what the colonists had done in placing the race in cities, the business culture had been inherited a long time ago.”

The editorial went on to accuse Lim of pushing for “only the rights of the Chinese” and not for other races, and also took pot shots at the opposition party’s latest attempt to recruit more Malay members.

“What he (Lim) will not be able to do is repair DAP’s racist image which is becoming worse. The addition of Malays in the party will not change anything.”

Sosilawati murders: Prosecution’s application to declare witness hostile rejected

Sosilawati murders: Prosecution’s application to declare witness hostile rejected
January 25, 2012

SHAH ALAM, Jan 25 — The High Court here today rejected an application by the prosecution in the murder trial of cosmetic millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya and three others to declare a witness hostile, Bernama Online reported this evening.

The news portal said Judge Datuk Akhtar Tahir made the decision after finding that the prosecution had no basis to support the application to declare R. Vakason as such.

In his judgment, Akhtar said he agreed with lawyer Manjeet Singh Dhillon, representing N. Pathmanabhan, the first accused in the murder case, that the prosecution should have a basis to support the application.

Akhtar also said he did not see any action by the witness against Deputy Public Prosecutor Ishak Mohd Yusoff that could be regarded as hostile.

Ishak submitted the application under Section 154 of the Evidence Act on the grounds that Vakason’s testimony did not side with the prosecution.

He also said that the prosecution had the right to challenge Vakason’s credibility.

During an earlier part of the trial, Ishak told the court that the prosecution would call Vakason to give an eyewitness account, stating that he saw Sosilawati with three men in a black BMW car at about 6.40pm on August 30, 2010.

Vakason, however, told the court that he saw nothing suspicious at a farm in Banting on the date in question, the day the murders were allegedly committed.

Vakason said he recalls hearing a car pull up before falling asleep at about 6pm on August 30, 2010. He testified that he only woke up the following day and went about his daily duties, while second accused, T. Thilaiyalagan, and third accused, R. Matan, fed the goats.

Pathmanabhan, 43, a former lawyer, and Thilaiyalagan, 21, Matan, 22, and R Khatavarayan, 32, who were workers at the farm, are charged with killing Sosilawati, 47, bank officer Noorhisham Mohamad, 38, lawyer Ahmad Kamil Abdul Karim, 32, and Sosilawati's driver, Kamaruddin Shamsuddin, 44.

They are charged with committing the offence at Lot 2001, Jalan Tanjong Layang, Tanjung Sepat, Banting, between 8.30pm and 9.45pm on August 30, 2010.

The offence, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The hearing continues tomorrow.

By KNG ZHENG GUAN

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has delivered the cold hard truth regarding Malaysia’s Thomas Cup squad: “We are simply not good enough.”

Besides four-time Thomas Cupper Chong Wei, the other men’s singles in the squad are Liew Daren, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and the surprise recall of KLRC’s Mohd Hafiz Hashim in second singles.

The men’s doubles will have Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah, Hoon Thien How and Teo Kok Siang.

Thien How and Kok Siang are only just recovering from injuries.
Read all about it: Lee Chong Wei posing with his book ‘Dare to be Champion’ at the Kuala Lumpur Sports Arena.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong have traditionally delivered the goods but they have been troubled by poor form lately, with the latest embarrassment being a second round exit in the Malaysia Open at the hands of fourth ranked Korean pair Kim Ki-jung-Kim Sa-rang.

The second doubles of V Shem-Khim Wah too have been finding consistency hard to come by, in particular the latter and the pair could be split up in order to pair V Shem with Kok Siang.

It is, however, in men’s singles that Malaysia’s lack of depth has been severely exposed and the recall of Hafiz sums it all up.

And Chong Wei, fresh from winning his eighth Malaysia Open title, admitted that the current squad is definitely weak, but he is ready to shoulder the burden.

“This year is certainly a big one with the Olympics in July being my main priority,” said the 29-year-old Penangite.

“The Thomas Cup squad is definitely weak and we may struggle to qualify but as the senior player in the squad, I am ready to shoulder the responsibility of leading the team.”

Chong Wei, who also won the Korean Open earlier this month, added that winning a third straight All England title would represent his best possible start in the year but it will not be easy.

“Winning in Korea and the Malaysia Open last week has certainly raised my spirits and confidence and it would be nice to win the All England for the third time.

“But it won’t be easy because the Chinese players have been studying my game and will certainly bounce back stronger,” Chong Wei said after the launch of his autobiography titled “Dare to be a Champion” at the Kuala Lumpur Sports Arena.

“The title of the book is supposed to tell a message that even though I’ve tasted numerous defeats in my career, I never give up.

“It also documents my journey from the junior level to where I am today. Hopefully, it will inspire the younger players to strive and perform better.”

Among the guests of honour at the book launch were National Sports Council (NSC) director general Datuk Zolkples Embong, National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz and former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

The Thomas Cup qualifiers will be held in Macau next month.

DDubur Saiful Perlu Disiasat: Sperma Masih Baik Selepas 100 Jam Di dalamnya!

Dubur Saiful Perlu Disiasat: Sperma Masih Baik Selepas 100 Jam Di dalamnya!

Timbalan pendawaraya Datuk Yusof Zainal Abiden semalam mengemukakan artikel kajian antarabangsa bersabit jangka hayat sel sperma mampu bertahan selepas terdedah kepada suhu normal.

Genting Malaysia Rises to 1-Month High on New York Proposal

Genting Malaysia Rises to 1-Month High on New York Proposal
By Gan Yen Kuan - Jan 5, 2012

Genting Malaysia Bhd. (GENM)’s shares climbed to a one-month high on expectations its $4 billion plan to build the biggest convention center in the U.S. may help boost visitors to its nearby casino, the first in New York City.

The convention and exhibition center will include hotel rooms and an expansion of its casino in the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, the Kuala Lumpur-based company said in a statement to the Malaysian stock exchange today. New York (STONY1) Governor Andrew Cuomo yesterday called for replacing the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan with the new 3.8 million-square-foot complex.

“It is a long-term planning that they do to make sure that in the future, there will be more consistent flow of business and people there,” Low Yee Huap, head of research at Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd., said in an interview in Kuala Lumpur today.

The investment will extend the Malaysian company’s reach in the U.S. after opening the New York City casino on Oct. 28 and amid plans for a $3.8 billion casino-and-hotel complex in Miami. The company, along with its parent Genting Bhd. (GENT), also owns and operates gaming resorts in the U.K., Malaysia and Singapore.

Genting Malaysia climbed 0.8 percent to 3.91 ringgit as of 4:01 p.m. in Kuala Lumpur, set for its highest since Dec. 5.

Cuomo said in his State of the State speech in Albany, the capital, that the Jacob Javits Center is “not competitive,” adding that the proposed Genting project will eclipse Chicago’s McCormick Place. The new development will include as many as 3,000 hotel rooms, he said.

Genting Malaysia’s New York unit is in talks with the state and expects a binding agreement by the end of November, it said in the statement.
