June 3 proposed for general election, reports Bloomberg

March 16, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — The Najib administration may dissolve Parliament in May for a general election that could likely be held on June 3, Bloomberg reported today, citing three unnamed government officials.
According to the international business wire, the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government is discussing dissolving Parliament for a general election in May or June, ahead of its mandate expiring in April next year.

“Prime Minister (Datuk Seri) Najib Razak (picture) is scheduled to speak on March 26 to as many as 4,000 Information Ministry staff who help oversee elections, the government officials said. One date proposed for the contest is June 3, according to three of the officials,” it reported.
There is a one-week school break from June 3 which could have led to speculation of a likely general election as school buildings are usually used as polling stations across the country.
Najib had already sparked speculation of an early vote when he said in December that preparations had begun for the contest to extend the ruling coalition’s 55 years in power.
A survey conducted by independent pollsters Merdeka Center last month showed the Umno president’s approval rating had surged by 10 percentage points to 69 per cent on the back of RM500 cash handouts to all households earning below RM3,000 a month.
“All signs seem to be pointing towards an election at the end of May or early June,” Bloomberg quoted Ong Kian Ming, a political analyst at UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur, as saying.
“It’s the best timing for Najib. If he does wait longer there may be other scandals that emerge and the goodwill that he’s enjoying from the budget handouts given out earlier this year may be lost,” Ong added.
Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil announced last week she will step down as women, family and community development minister when her senatorship ends next month after being dogged for over four months by allegations she and her family abused a RM250 million federal loan earmarked for a cattle-farming scheme.
It is understood that Najib and Shahrizat will address some 7,000 Wanita Umno members at the party headquarters here next Friday on the reasons behind her resignation from the Cabinet.
BN will hope that the scandal will draw to a close after the Wanita Umno chief’s husband, who is chairman of the National Feedlot Corporation tasked with running the project, was also charged with criminal breach of trust on Monday.
Najib will lead BN into polls for the first time, with observers saying he must improve on the coalition’s last outing and only a return to a two-thirds majority of Parliament can guarantee he remains in power.
The son of former Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak succeeded Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in April 2009, just a year after BN suffered its worst electoral outcome ever, ceding 82 federal seats and four state governments.
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was acquitted in January of sodomy charges he claims were politically motivated, has pledged to “clamour for reform” in a bid to unseat Najib after the verdict.

Awakened by an arrogant and biased Election Commission

Awakened by an arrogant and biased Election Commission

April 28, 2012
FMT LETTER: Steven Choong, via e-mail
As I write this I’m aware that tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands are journeying into KL to make the great event in the Malaysian history, the Bersih 3 Sit-and-Protes against an unclean election process,  a success today.
My heart is with all of my fellow citizens who will be at Dataran Merdeka. I wish I could be there too but I’m staying back because I have to give my moral support to the Bersih 3 JB Steering Committee in Johor Bahru.
The Steering Committee consists of people who have no prior experience of organising a rally. Yet they set out with an ambition to see a 10,000 crowd because they long to see changes in Johor.
Johoreans missed the thrill of 308 and they would not want the thrill to escape again in the coming 13th GE. However, they know they may miss it yet again unless they do something. They know enough now that the electoral roll is not clean and the election process is open for manipulation via the postal voting processes as well as a biased Election Commission.
The exposure that the EC chairman, Abdul Aziz and his deputy, Wan Ahmad, are both Umno members are just something too much to swallow.
These two persons do not even know that they are holding a position that demands the highest level of integrity and independence as the future of the country is entirely vested in their hands to ensure that the government is what the Rakyat has chosen.
They should have immediately tendered their resignation upon the exposure by PKR. But to the dismay of everyone they just casually brushed off the matter as something insignificance. What has this country becomes under BN? We have people who walk in the corridors of power and yet do not seem to know what is ethical or unethical.
It is clear the BN government is rotten to the core and all other supposed commissions are too being manned by people who are closely affiliated to Umno.  Hence, these are the main reasons that gave the Steering Committee the courage to push to the limits that they know.
The Steering Committee and many volunteers had been working very hard over the last two weeks to ensure a big turn-out today in JB. They dare to dream dreams and I’m deeply touched and appreciative of all they have done.
I hope it will be a success and the police and the MBJB will co-operate. But then come what may, this is our land and future.  If we do not engage now to demand for a fair and clean election, our dreams will remain dreams and the future will be bleak for all except those who walk the corridors of power.
I hope too, it will be a great success in KL and all other cities as we really need to take back the right to determine the future of this country together.
The writer is national deputy sec-gen of PKR

Anak Dedah Penipuan Ibu Menyamar Sebagai Bomoh & Tipu Wang Orang Ramai

Anak Dedah Penipuan Ibu Menyamar Sebagai Bomoh & Tipu Wang Orang Ramai

Many projects abandoned as developers only want huge profits

NUSAJAYA: Greedy developers are the main reason for the many abandoned housing projects in Johor.

State Local Government and Housing Committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Zahri Jamil said there were 12 abandoned projects involving more than 4,616 residential units.

“They (greedy developers) want to finish their projects early to make huge profits without having a strong cash flow,” he said.

The Johor Baru district has the highest number of abandoned projects with four in Taman Cahaya Kota Puteri, Taman Seri Baiduri, Taman Desa Larkin and Taman Mewah Jaya.

Ahmad Zahri said the Ledang district was second with three abandoned projects, namely Taman Tangkak Emas, Taman Sri Nilam, Taman Sri Emas 7 while Batu Pahat’s three abandoned projects were in Bandar Putera Indah, Taman Jasa Amir, and Taman Emas Surya.

The two stalled projects in Kluang are in Taman Mengkibol and Taman Sri Layang-Layang.

“Several steps have been taken to revive these projects,” he said in his reply to Ng Lam Hua (DAP-Mengkibol) during the state assembly meeting yesterday.

Ahmad Zahri said new developers had been appointed to take over the projects with eight developers appointed by the Housing and Local Government Ministry and one by the state government.

He said the ministry was in the process of appointing new developers to rehabilitate Taman Mewah Jaya in Johor Baru, Taman Emas Surya in Batu Pahat and Taman Sri Layang-Layang in Kluang.

“We have to make sure that it is a win-win situation for both the new developers and house buyers,” he said.

Chong Wei: Thomas Cup squad may struggle to qualify

http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2012/1/19/sports/10290318&sec=sportsChong Wei: Thomas Cup squad may struggle to qualify
By KNG ZHENG GUAN

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has delivered the cold hard truth regarding Malaysia’s Thomas Cup squad: “We are simply not good enough.”

Besides four-time Thomas Cupper Chong Wei, the other men’s singles in the squad are Liew Daren, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and the surprise recall of KLRC’s Mohd Hafiz Hashim in second singles.

The men’s doubles will have Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah, Hoon Thien How and Teo Kok Siang.

Thien How and Kok Siang are only just recovering from injuries.
Read all about it: Lee Chong Wei posing with his book ‘Dare to be Champion’ at the Kuala Lumpur Sports Arena.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong have traditionally delivered the goods but they have been troubled by poor form lately, with the latest embarrassment being a second round exit in the Malaysia Open at the hands of fourth ranked Korean pair Kim Ki-jung-Kim Sa-rang.

The second doubles of V Shem-Khim Wah too have been finding consistency hard to come by, in particular the latter and the pair could be split up in order to pair V Shem with Kok Siang.

It is, however, in men’s singles that Malaysia’s lack of depth has been severely exposed and the recall of Hafiz sums it all up.

And Chong Wei, fresh from winning his eighth Malaysia Open title, admitted that the current squad is definitely weak, but he is ready to shoulder the burden.

“This year is certainly a big one with the Olympics in July being my main priority,” said the 29-year-old Penangite.

“The Thomas Cup squad is definitely weak and we may struggle to qualify but as the senior player in the squad, I am ready to shoulder the responsibility of leading the team.”

Chong Wei, who also won the Korean Open earlier this month, added that winning a third straight All England title would represent his best possible start in the year but it will not be easy.

“Winning in Korea and the Malaysia Open last week has certainly raised my spirits and confidence and it would be nice to win the All England for the third time.

“But it won’t be easy because the Chinese players have been studying my game and will certainly bounce back stronger,” Chong Wei said after the launch of his autobiography titled “Dare to be a Champion” at the Kuala Lumpur Sports Arena.

“The title of the book is supposed to tell a message that even though I’ve tasted numerous defeats in my career, I never give up.

“It also documents my journey from the junior level to where I am today. Hopefully, it will inspire the younger players to strive and perform better.”

Among the guests of honour at the book launch were National Sports Council (NSC) director general Datuk Zolkples Embong, National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz and former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

The Thomas Cup qualifiers will be held in Macau next month.

Mari berhibur dgn kartun zunar
