4 wanted for spreading false news on floods

4 wanted for spreading false news on floods

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is looking for four individuals to assist in its investigation into the spreading of false news on the east coast floods through social media and messaging apps.
This comes following the rampant spread of false news, including claims that a Manek Urai school used as a relief centre had collapsed, claiming many lives.
Police have since denied the incident and another claim that 40 patients in Kuala Krai Hospital had died because of a lack of oxygen supply following the floods.
The individuals – three women and a man – have been asked to give their statements to the authorities immediately.
They are:
1.       Norizan Osman (660113-03-5810). Last known address: A-1-6 Desa Bangsawan Jln 27/117A, Off Jln Budiman, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras 56000 Kuala Lumpur.
2.       Siti Hawa Mat Yunan (940125-03-5320). Last known address: Kg Seneng Jelawat, Bachok 16370 Kelantan.
3.       Nik Hasnan Izani Husain (750923-03-6275). Last known address: Kampung Bukit Mas, Tanah Merah 17500 Kelantan.
4.       Raja Rubiah Raja Abu Bakar (600106-01-5286). Last known address: No. 21, Jalan Jaya 1, Taman Jaya, Bandar Tun Razak, 56000 Kuala Lumpur.
Those with information should contact MCMC investigation officer Mohamad Syukri Jamaluddin (019-2869515) or Rafina Mimi Muhammad (019-2869471). – December 30, 2014.

NSC handling of flood criticism shows denial syndrome, says DAP

NSC handling of flood criticism shows denial syndrome, says DAP

The National Security Council's (NSC) response to public criticism about how the federal government had handled the flood disaster epitomises Putrajaya’s denial syndrome, said DAP.
Its national publicity secretary Tony Pua said the NSC had also raised more questions than answers when it defended the government against the criticism.
"I cannot help but feel both vindicated and mildly amused with the strident response the NSC issued to rebut criticisms against its poor management and preparation against the country’s current flood disaster.

They even took the trouble to name me four times in the lengthy reply, accusing critics of 'making their remarks from the bench' who 'are full of pomp'," he said in a statement today.
Pua, who is also Petaling Jaya Utara MP, said he could respond to the NSC rant, paragraph by paragraph, but he would only focus on the two key points in the response issued two days ago.
The first was the NSC's inability to take criticism, Pua said, as if it could do no wrong and no one else, even an MP, should comment on it if they were not involved in the government's disaster management operations.
"The NSC cannot be more wrong. While the public are not directly involved in NSC operations, it is certainly our duty to highlight these issues if the NSC does a terrible job.
"We highlight the issues not for the sake of embarrassing the NSC and the government, but to tell those in power that they can  right those mistakes, buck up and mitigate the problems faced by the people," he said.
Pua also said he did not quote rumours in the social media when he criticised authorities over their response to the floods.
"The NSC accused me of making wild allegations by quoting unfounded rumours in the social media, saying that it felt especially sorry that a public figure like Tony Pua would stoop to quoting information from an unreliable source to lambast the government, particularly towards the NSC.
"I reviewed my two prior press statements again and I did not find myself quoting any such rumours.  Instead, I quoted Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who is also Kelantan Umno chief," he said.
Pua agreed that there would often be unpredictable challenges in managing disasters, but NSC had failed to demonstrate any urgency in its leadership as a “commander” and was "terribly slow in responding to the rapidly escalating crisis."
Secondly, he said the complete lack of preparedness and urgency to deal with the crisis was exposed by NSC’s own statement.
"It appears that NSC was only interested in taking a leaf of the Prime Minister (Datuk Ser Najib Razak) to imply a threat of 'libel' against me."
The NSC in its statement suggested that Pua could face a libel suit for claiming that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had only met the NSC on December 27, 2014 to deal with the flood situation; and that no prior meetings were held.
It said several meetings had been held prior to the beginning of the monsoon season, with the first meeting chaired by Muhyiddin on January 3 this year.
A second meeting was chaired by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim on October 13 this year, and a third  at the working level on the same day, chaired by the NSC secretary.
Pua noted that the meeting chaired by Muhyiddin on January 3 was nearly one year ago, and suggested that it could have been to discuss the floods in December of the previous year instead of preparing for the coming one.
"The fact that the NSC admitted that there was only an additional two meetings held on October 13 this year since a year ago only proved that the NSC clearly did not put great importance or emphasis on managing the annual flood crisis.
"The severity of this year’s flood only starkly exposed NSC’s lackadaisal preparations and caught the Najib administration with its pants down," he said.
Pua said NSC's own statement proved the need for a detailed public post-mortem once the current crisis is dealt with.
"It is hence important for us to support both the call by my colleagues, (Seremban MP) Anthony Loke and (Gelang Patah MP) Lim Kit Siang, for a emergency parliamentary sitting to debate the crisis and to set up an independent Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate into the cause and management of the worst natural disaster to hit Malaysia in recent years," he said.
In a statement to defend the federal government from critics, the NSC said the floods which led to the displacement of over 200,000 people in the East Coast states were "abnormal" and were causing major obstacles and problems to the relief efforts by the government.
NSC also said it was disturbed by the allegations made over social media and in web portals, including a commentary published by The Malaysian Insider; and described such criticism as being politically motivated.
Malaysia is dealing with one of its worst floods in history. Almost a quarter of a million people have reportedly been displaced in several states, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Perak. – December 31, 2014.

Cocaine in Vagina: Thai Woman Held At Penang Airport

Thursday, 21 February 2013 18:40

GEORGETOWN: It took the police almost three days to extract 80 cocaine-contained capsules, each as big as one’s thumb, from a woman who was detained at the Penang International Airport (PIA) last Wednesday after she swallowed the capsules.
The large-sized woman, who is in her 20s and hails from Thailand, had also risked her life by concealing another cocaine package as big as a cucumber in her vagina, Harian Metro reported.
According to sources, police detained the woman around 5pm following a tip-off. The suspect was said to have flown in from Brazil.

“Upon her arrest, the woman was brought to Penang Hospital and police had to wait for almost three days to extract the 80 capsules she swallowed.

“We believe the woman must have been paid a hefty amount of money from drug syndicates, to the extent that she was willing to risk her life like that,” said a source.

The source said, initial investigation revealed that the drugs were worth almost RM300,000, and the suspect was said to have only consumed chocolates to satisfy her hunger throughout the long flight from Brazil.

“From the modus operandi, police believe that this syndicate is willing to go to various extreme lengths to smuggle drugs into this country,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Penang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief, S. Batumalai confirmed the woman’s arrest when contacted.

“The suspect is currently remanded for another seven days to assist police investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

Last November, another Thai woman was also detained at the PIA. Investigations revealed that she had tried to smuggle 40 cocaine capsules by swallowing them and also had a cucumber-sized cocaine package up her vagina.

Malaysia wishes to become a high-income country.

The following are true stories: A Malaysian political leader had a heart surgery in Singapore. The operation was successful.

During his recuperation period, the political leader would like to thank 3 skilful doctors, including an anesthesiologist. He said: “Thanks to the Singaporean doctors..........”

“I'm sorry, Sir. I'm from Malaysia,” interrupted a doctor. “Me too.” “Me as well.” x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x A Malaysian company wanted to develop a new town abroad, it entrusted the project to a Singapore multinational company. The first time when they met, the Singapore company sent a team of seven people, including the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Architect and Chief Finance Executive. The meeting went smoothly. They relaxed and chatted.

The Malaysian company's Director said, “Durians from my hometown Kuala Pilah, Seremban taste the best. I'll treat you all next time when you come.” “Really? What area in Kuala Pilah? I'm from Kuala Pilah, too!” said the Singapore company's Chief Executive Officer. Next, one by one, the other six from the Singaporean team revealed their identities “I'm from Malacca.” “I'm from Kuala Kangsar, Perak.” “I grew up in Segamat.”

“My hometown is...” And all of them were actually “Made in Malaysia ”. x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x There are countless similar stories around us. And there is always another story behind each story. Some were rejected by domestic universities while some were rejected by the government scholarship. They couldn't get it even with 10 As while others got only 10 Bs. As leaving might be better than staying, they just went to a different world after crossing the bridge. There is a deep feeling for every story. x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

According to the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) statistics, a total of about 785,000 Malaysians are currently working abroad and 44% of them are working in Singapore, while the rest are working in other countries, including Hong Kong, China, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. And two-thirds of them are professionals. At the same time, most of the 2 million guest workers in Malaysia are from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, India and Vietnam.

They are engaged in labour industry which does not require high educational background but just a little bit of brains. Low skill, low knowledge and of course, low wages. Malaysia has become a country that exports brains while importing labours, resulting in a serious deficit in knowledge trade.

Petronas money

Petronas money - by Jeffrey Kittingan IT'S HIGH TIME TO REVIEW THE PETRONAS OIL ROYALTY AGREEMENTS! In view of the shocking developments from inevitable results of the sudden oil price hike, I would like to raise several issues with regards to the situation in Petronas which I believe most people are NOT aware of. This is especially pertinent in the face of several revelations, such as the fact that the oil wells in Sabah will dry up six years from now. The issue has also been raised that Petronas "could go bust in 2018", forcing us to ask: Where have all the huge amounts of Petronas money gone to? Had Petronas been managed so badly that despite it being the nation's biggest money earner, it is now facing the possibility of going bust (bankrupt)? The first problem with Petronas is the fact that it was designed to be a SECRETIVE organisation worse that a "kongsi gelap". The Petronas agreements have been classified secret. WHY? What clauses are in the agreement are so sensitive that nobody should know? This secrecy also includes the secrecy of Petronas detailed Annual Report which is shielded from public eyes and scrutiny, making it an organization without public accountability. Petronas is therefore more a sole proprietorship completely and secretively owned by the Prime Minister then a public government owned company! What is so secretive that it cannot be revealed and only the Prime Minister has total complete knowledge? Are we suppose to TRUST the Prime Minister and have FAITH in him after all the scandals, "curi duit rakyat" cases and fiascos continuing to hit us? The other shocking revelation that has come to my knowledge is that 80% of the oil produced by Petronas is not sold directly to the world market but is channelled through 6 OPTION HOLDERS who obtain the supply from Petronas at well below market prices (1974 prices to be exact). These option holders or agents are the ones reaping the benefits and huge profits in the oil price hikes. Who are these people - the lucky 6 Option Holders? Why are they there in the first place? Who chose them? Why are they so lucky over the other 28 million Malaysians? Why am I not chosen? Why and Who created such a STUPID system for PETRONAS? Are these people in fact cronies representing certain people with private interests and personal private pockets? It is also understood that this supply through the option holders is sold by contracts with a binding agreement for 20 or 30 years, causing huge losses for Petronas when and every time oil price increases. Petronas would have to continue selling at the agreed old price without gaining any benefits from any increase in the world oil prices. At the same time, Petronas has to buy back the oil for local consumption from the world market at market prices. See how Petronas is losing our rakyat's money faster than BINGO? And do you now understand why the BN government keeps CRYING and WAILING about being unable to SUBSIDISE the petrol prices any longer and why Idris Jala is WEEPING that the country is going bankrupt in a couple of years? Any IDIOT can tell you that no business can sustain like this - sell cheap because Petronas is tied to the age old low price for 20-30 years and buy back at absolute SKY HIGH market price - without going BANKRUPT faster than BINGO! By business logic, Petronas should be highly profitable if they sell our high grade Malaysian crude at market price (higher than Arabian crude because our crude is high quality with low sulphur), and buy back Arabian crude at market price (lower than our selling price). Why and how we got ourselves into this dire straits deserve a White Paper or a Royal Commission of Inquiry... and worse why the IDIOTS responsible are not letting go after raking BILLIONS in profits since 1974? Why so greedy? Do they want to continue milking the poor rakyat until the end of the world? Only 20% of Petronas's supply is sold through direct open bidding. Thus, Petronas is sadly not maximising its revenue and profits by dealing directly with the open world market. Instead it has been incurring incalculable losses for the nation and for the people. How much this monstrous loss is, we will never know... until we get an honest Prime Minister or until we topple the BN government. The Members of Parliament and the state governments should boldly raise this very important issue in Parliament or directly with the federal government for the benefit of the oil-producing states and the people. The BN MPs seem to be quite hopeless in this respect, cowering in fear, whimpering in their little corners and not even daring to utter the word "oil" or "Petronas"... such useless people should be removed and voted out of office. They are supposed to be representatives of the people or rakyat, and are supposed to keep the government in check to ensure the interests of the people are taken care of. Instead, these useless MPs are supporting the plundering or are part of the plundering and robbing, on top of demands for contracts and more contracts! They take care of their own pockets as FIRST priority, and the pockets of their cronies as SECOND priority. The people and rakyat???? They won't even bat an eyelid! There is a window of opportunity for all of us to DEMAND a REVIEW of the Petronas agreements and to make Petronas OPEN and TRANSPARENT. We should also demand that the system of having the 6 option holders be abolished. A new system should be created in which the three oil-producing states are in control of the marketing arm of Petronas, to make Petronas trade directly in the world market with the aim of maximising revenue for the benefit of the nation. Obviously, Petronas is a huge business organisation which is not accountable, secretive, and open to a lot of abuses by the Prime Minister himself, including the decision to use its revenue to bail out various individuals who faced bankruptcy in the midst of the Asian economic crisis 13 years ago. If the federal government truly wants to be RESPONSIBLE and ACCOUNTABLE to the people as it claims it wants to be, they should have long time ago proved their SINCERITY for excellent governance by opening up FULL PUBLIC TRANSPARENCY ACCOUNTING into Petronas's revenue and expenses!!! CAP: Only the rich can afford Penang homes

Wednesday June 6, 2012 CAP: Only the rich can afford Penang homes
GEORGE TOWN: Many housing projects in Penang are beyond the reach of locals, said the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP). claimed that the upper class and foreigners were being set as a priority for development projects. “As foreigners and expatriates are able to afford homes at higher prices, this disrupts the market and raises land prices beyond what is affordable for locals,” Mohideen said yesterday. Citing the example of the Singapore Housing Development Board, he said Penang’s first priority should be creating good homes for Penangites. Raising his concer n: CAP education field officer N. V. Subbarao protesting against hillslope development projects in Penang. CAP research officer S. Mageswari said the safety of housing projects on hillslopes was not only questionable, but forest clearing was also rampant. “This not only causes erosion but also flash floods and pollution as sediment flows down to the rivers and seas,” she said, claiming that the threat to marine life was also causing an adverse effect on the traditional fishing villages in Permatang Damar Laut, Bayan Lepas, Gertak Sanggul and other places in the south of the island. However, the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) cautioned that property prices in the island would escalate if there was a ban on housing projects on hillslopes. Such a ban would result in a shortage of supply, said Rehda Penang chairman Datuk Jerry Chan. He was commenting on a call by two non-governmmental organisations to halt hillslope projects. On Monday, a group of CAP and Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) members staged a peaceful protest outside the construction site of a hillslope housing project in Bukit Gambier ahead of World Environment Day yesterday. Chan said it was not true that only foreign investors bought hillslope property as they comprised less than 3% of the buyers in Penang last year. “It is also not true that all hillslope property development projects are high-end schemes. “There are quite a number of affordable projects in Paya Terubong, Relau, Batu Maung and Tanjung Bunga,” he said. Penang Master Builders’ and Building Materials Dealers Association immediate past president Datuk Finn Choong said there were now a variety of new environmentally friendly technologies available to enable development on hillslopes to be carried out safely. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/6/6/nation/11426214&sec=nation

Debate Speech on 21st March, 2012 by Wong Ho Leng, MP for Sibu, on Motion to appreciate the King’s Speech

Debate Speech on 21st March, 2012 by Wong Ho Leng, MP for Sibu, on Motion to appreciate the King’s Speech
I wish to raise a few issues in this august House:

1.     Security
Security is a big problem in Sibu. On 20.10.2011, a father, his son and his daughter-in-law were brutally murdered at their house in Bawang Assan, Sibu. His wife was injured and faked dead to escape murder. On 10.12.2011 a young lady was murdered while waiting to cross the Igan River in Sibu. On 11.1.2012 a businessman was killed when shopping. These crimes remained unsolved. On 3.1.2012, a family of 4 were murdered by their neighbor who climbed over the ceiling because there was no partition wall between the terraced houses. That is the only murder that was solved.
On 13th March 2012, a cleaner was beaten unconscious and gang raped in a bus near a school and bus terminal in Pelawan, Sibu.
Burglary, robberies, and vehicle thefts have increased in Sibu. But not all cases had been reported to the police, because the public do not have confidence in the police. Many elderly Chinese went to lodge police reports but they cannot speak Bahasa Malaysia. The police cannot understand them, and they cannot understand the police. It is just like chicken talking to ducks.
This is not a problem in Sibu alone. It happens in other police stations in Bintulu, Miri, and Kuching where there are no multi-lingual police officers manning the counters. I appeal to the Government to station more multi-lingual police in these towns in Sarawak.
The people in Sibu are complaining that the police in Sibu are unable to protect them. To be fair to them, even if the police are doing their best, they can’t do much if they do not have sufficient manpower to investigate and solve crimes.
Very often I have received complaints that the police refused to receive reports. This is unacceptable.
I have also received complaints that victims of crimes have been discouraged from making reports of thefts and robberies. They were asked to report accidental loss only. This is unacceptable. This is not the way to show that crime is not serious in Sibu.
I urge the federal Government to increase police manpower in Sibu. We want police who are honest and hard-working. We don’t want police who lied that Sibu is “no-gangster town”. This story is untrue.
We want clean police in Malaysia. On 14th March, 2012, the Inspector-General of Police said that only 1% of policemen are taking bribes. This is the greatest joke of 2012. We all know that there are police who are demanding for kopi-o even on road sides in broad day light. Although there are honest police, there are many more dishonest and corrupt police. The people have nowhere to complain. That is why we complain that the BN Government has failed the people by not establishing the IPCMC which was suggested by the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the Police. I appeal to the Government not to allow corruption continue in our country.

2.     Health Services
While his whole family was murdered, a little boy survived. Kelvin Ling was badly injured on his head. He could have lost his life too because there was no neurosurgeon in Sibu Hospital to operate on him. His life was saved only because he was flown in time to Kuching General Hospital by a private helicopter. We wonder why the Government cannot provide a reliable helicopter service in the event of emergency.
I agree with many in Sibu who complained that Hospital Sibu is 3rd class.
I urge the federal government to upgrade Hospital Sibu. Hospital Sibu caters for more than half a million people in Sibu and the hinterland of the Rejang River like Kapit, Belaga, Song, Kanowit, Bintangor and Sarikei. It is unfair for patients to have to wait for treatment. Some had died from waiting, just because there are insufficient specialists and surgeons. The federal government should employ more specialists and neurosurgeons in Hospital Sibu.
Those admitted to Hospital should be well looked after both by the doctors, nurses and their families. But many patients and their families have complained that the wards in Hospital Sibu are hot and uncomfortable.
The Government should look into improving the condition there.
Those admitted to Hospital require family members to take care of them. But there is insufficient parking space at the Hospital compound. There is also no place to accommodate family members who come from outstation. At any one time we can see that there are always not less than 40 family members sprawling on the floor on the corridors, sleeping on cardboards and old newspapers.
The Government should provide accommodation near Hospital Sibu for visiting families from outstation. Visitation by family members must be encouraged.
I also take this opportunity to talk about the health services in Lawas. I am given to understand that the condition in Lawas hospital is deplorable and cases have been brought to court for negligence of doctors which had resulted in death. A case in point is Kam Agong who died in 2002 at the age of 44 because of medical negligence when she gave birth to her 8th child.
It is scandalous that instead of building a hospital, a hotel was built.

Can the Government explain why? Is the Ministry of Health not able to tell the difference between a hotel and a hospital?

3.     Chinese Education

Education is an important bulwark to national development. Malaysia is a multi-racial country, and the right to receive education in one’s mother tongue is a constitutional as well as a universal human right.
I am given to understand that 29 headmasters, 39 assistant headmasters and 287 teachers who do not have Chinese qualifications are sent to serve in Chinese Primary Schools in Sarawak. Most of these teachers did not even pass UPSR’s Chinese subjects.
This cannot be right. The Government must ensure that headmasters who are sent to serve in Chinese primary schools must pass the Chinese subject in SPM.
With headmasters and teachers not knowing Chinese, it is no wonder that I have received frequent complaints that some headmasters had been discouraging students from taking Chinese subjects, or even if they do, not to sit for exams for fear that they will pull down the school results. This has become a serious problem in many schools in Sarawak and the education ministry must look into it to right a wrong to the Chinese community.
The practice of sending teachers without Chinese qualification to Chinese Primary Schools will severely affect the teaching standards and administration of these schools. It is not conducive to educational development, especially when it is well accepted that Chinese schools contribute tremendously to national development.
The fact that there are 355 teachers who are non-Chinese qualified are teaching in Chinese schools means that there is a shortage of this number of teaching staff in Sarawak. The Government should rectify this situation immediately.
Also, there are clerks and administrative officers in Chinese schools who cannot speak Chinese. This is unacceptable because that prevents parents from communicating with them.
Also, the Government has recently recognised qualifications from 146 universities from China. This is good news.
I understand that these Universities in China recognize the Unified Examination Certificates (UEC) results for the purpose of admission. So, can I know, why should the Government not recognize UEC?
Many people take it that the practice of sending non-Chinese qualified teachers to Chinese schools is a way of the BN to marginalize Chinese education. Should that be the case, why should we be talking “1Malaysia”?
It is time for the BN Government to know what exactly does the Chinese want.
Our country has 1294 Chinese Primary schools. 222 of them are in Sarawak. I believe it is only fair for Sarawakians to demand that 20% of education allocations be provided to Chinese primary schools in Sarawak.
4.     Suppression and Oppression of People
It is time that the BN Leaders repent from being bullies of the people.
This House has heard of the letter from Assistant Minister of Sarawak Mong Dagang recommending that an OKU Frusis Lebi be stripped off his welfare and agricultural aids on the ground that he had supported the opposition.

We have also seen that Senior Minister of Sarawak James Masing support Mong Dagang, even threatening the people, “jangan lawan towkay”.

This is a clear case of the BN leaders oppressing and suppressing the people. What is disgusting is that even OKU and ignorant rural folks are not spared by the brutal acts of BN leaders.
I want the PM to tell us whether it is the BN’s practice to bully, oppress and suppress the people who do not support Government policies.
A few days before the Sarawak state election of 2011, Wong Soon Koh, who is a SUPP leader and Senior Minister in Sarawak, told Sibu folks that after the Sibu by-election defeat of the BN, the PM had considered stopping the Sibu airport extension project.
We all know that the PM uttered the most notorious “you help me I help You” statement in the Sibu by-election. Can we know from the PM himself whether he did threaten Sibu folks in this manner?
I have also known that fertilizer subsidies had been withdrawn from farmers who used to be SUPP members on the ground that they have now gone to support the Opposition.
The people have freedom to vote for candidates of their choice. This is a right under the constitution. The people are tax payers. The welfare monies and agricultural subsidies come from the people, not from the BN leaders or from the PM. We have heard ‘Rakyat didahulukan’. This has totally no meaning now when BN leaders can cut welfare aids and agricultural subsidies at their whim and fancy.
The rhetoric “rakyat didahulukan” sounds dreadfully hollow, because the BN Ministers are even cutting assistance to the disabled.
“Rakyat didahulukan” is a rhetoric because the BN leaders are now saying that BN leaders are the towkays. The BN Government ought to be ashamed of this.
Wong Soon Koh had also told Sibu folks that the flood mitigation project was almost stopped because of the by-election loss. He also threatened that should he lose the 2011 state election, all development projects will stop.

This is the political culture of samseng. I am sure that the PM is aware of this.
Is the PM condoning all these? If not, why was no action taken against his Ministers?
